Picking up those brushes again.

Hi and welcome to the occasional mutterings of Dave Doc, a military modeller and some time gamer. Gaming and model making has given me a real education, History & Geography(obvious really), Artistry, Politics, Economics, Logistics, Project Management -you try building miniature armies without the last 3.

I will use the blog to record my creations & the odd occasion I actually do some gaming.

I have always been inspired by the aesthetic side of gaming. Playing on well constructed terrain using excellently painted units is always a joy.

Sudan - Big Game On

One  of the drivers for the Sudan project has always been the recreation of games from my youth that were put on by Peter Gilder at the Wargames Holiday Centre and appeared in various publications of the time . Well after 6 years work I am finally giving the full game a run out at old friend Mark Freeth’s WHC over the first weekend of October. Of course I still have a few bits and bobs left to finish off - and this will be a good deadline to get those items done. I will also be at The Other Partizan in August with some of the guys from the Old Guard group , so hopefully the will give some elements of the game a run out too .

Yes I know they didn’t carry standards in the Sudan , but hey it’s my army!
Really looking forward to this .

  9. My congratulations on getting that beast of a project so close to the finish line. If I ever make it to your part of that island I‘d really love to get a game in.

  12. Shame I would never be able to manage the WHC, but see you at the Other Partizan and probably bump into you a few times in Antwerp if you’re going.

You could of course give your game a run out at The Burrow 😜🤔

    1. Sounds like a plan. Should be at Antwerp as well, just as a punter .
