Picking up those brushes again.

Hi and welcome to the occasional mutterings of Dave Doc, a military modeller and some time gamer. Gaming and model making has given me a real education, History & Geography(obvious really), Artistry, Politics, Economics, Logistics, Project Management -you try building miniature armies without the last 3.

I will use the blog to record my creations & the odd occasion I actually do some gaming.

I have always been inspired by the aesthetic side of gaming. Playing on well constructed terrain using excellently painted units is always a joy.

Other Partizan Weekend

This weekend saw a trip down to Newark for the second Partizan show. We decided to make a weekend of it and spend some time on Saturday at the National Civil War museum - which was was very good. It was then  pleasant few hours in the Prince Rupert pub followed by the curry house with Simon Miller and friends. - Cheers guys it was good night.

Sunday saw a visit to the show - which is rapidly becoming my favourite venue since it moved to the showground. There were plenty of high quality games on show , and good mix of traders for me. I met up with a number of people for a chat - but still missed some (less said about  Mark Allen and coffee down the white shirt incident.the better)

Any on with some eye candy..

Plenty of "Lootz" too !!

Some cracking terrain bits for the Sudan from Adrian's Walls

Jetty and rowing boats from Ainsty

Ready made wall set for Tree Fellas

Pick up a very large order from Warbases - lots of stuff to base coming up - all with precut holes for magnets.

A "top up" of Mahdist cavalry  x 12

The Partizan free figure of Mary Seacole will stand duty in the Sudan mediacla section I think. Plus i found this officer figure drinking tea...

Its been a period of stocking up recently - the storeage boxes are now full.... ready for the painting to come. The previously empty paint desk is now full with a large Sikh battallion under way.

Going Loco...

Well more a visit to the local model railway club annual show (Cleveland Model Railway Club). This is normally a pretty good one , and this year again was a decent standard. There are always good tips , materials , tools and inspiration to be picked up. There is I think a lot of cross over in the skills between railway modelling and wargaming.

The large steel work lay our looked good - just needed more tanks!

Certainly some fine modelling skill involved

then it was look for some bits n bobs
I picked up an A2 and A4 cutting mat to refresh the work desk.

A static grass applicator, new "helping hands" tool, small anvil and pin vice

Some LED lights for the Gangster buldings , plus a couplE of "wagons" from the everything a £1 casualty bin - to rework for the Sudan railway..

Overall a good few hours out.
