Picking up those brushes again.

Hi and welcome to the occasional mutterings of Dave Doc, a military modeller and some time gamer. Gaming and model making has given me a real education, History & Geography(obvious really), Artistry, Politics, Economics, Logistics, Project Management -you try building miniature armies without the last 3.

I will use the blog to record my creations & the odd occasion I actually do some gaming.

I have always been inspired by the aesthetic side of gaming. Playing on well constructed terrain using excellently painted units is always a joy.

Messing about on the water.

After all that figure painting through the challenge I need to do something different for a bit. So here is the first of the Nile flotilla. An armoured paddle steamer. Its a resin kit by Grand Manner, with a few bits of extras added.

Its a big old piece of kit. It went together pretty well, it just needed all the parts to be given two washes to get rid of the release agent. After that a fairly simple bit of paint some parts before assembly. I have tried to just make it look "distressed and messy. I need to pick up a few crew figures - something I will be on the look out for at Salute I think.

Off to play with another one - er yes.. I have 3 of the things altogether.

  2. Excellent work Dave! It sure looks like it's been through quite a bit with all the added plating and your weathering job!

  5. Nice one.
Just been looking at a Sudan steamer this afternoon, but I managed to not make the purchase. We weren't too sure who made it. So I'll check out Grand Manner and see if was one of there's.

  16. Brilliant work. It makes the improvised river gunboats of the American Civil War look positively elegant. You did it up well, bravo.
