Picking up those brushes again.

Hi and welcome to the occasional mutterings of Dave Doc, a military modeller and some time gamer. Gaming and model making has given me a real education, History & Geography(obvious really), Artistry, Politics, Economics, Logistics, Project Management -you try building miniature armies without the last 3.

I will use the blog to record my creations & the odd occasion I actually do some gaming.

I have always been inspired by the aesthetic side of gaming. Playing on well constructed terrain using excellently painted units is always a joy.

Gaming - Wake Island 192?

This weekend saw the first Partizan of the year . I was with the guys from The League of Extraordinary Kriegspeilers . The game was a imaginary 1920’s fight at Wake Island

The sea is made of 4 mats from Deepcut

The set up is all part of Steve Langans wonderful collection

My Torpedo boat breaches the defences

The Japanese won the pre invasion game of Battleships in the bar the night before giving them the edge on the day which followed through to an ultimate victory in the day . I was busy all day and didn’t take nigh pictures of this !

The show was as busy as ever with epic looking games that had 5 minutes to look  at . I didn’t have a shopping requirement as I am having a bit of a downsize of  stuff for the rest of this year . They did run a table top sale which I took advantage of which has got the downsize project off to a good start and thinned out the lead/plastic pile and the rules that were never getting used .

As usual it was also a good social catch up with various friends . Time to think about The Other Partizan , and what game to do I think

Here is the game brief .

Gaming - Sudan . A last run out

This weekend saw a run out for a small portion of the Sudan collection .the Egyptian army was sent to quell a rebellion . Now if you know you history, you will know where this goes 😆.

The table was set up at 16x6 with the column having to travel across it to the rebellious village. What could possible go wrong .

The Bashi Bazooks scout ahead

Gendarmes lead the colum off .

They actually look pretty organised!

The village openly displays its allegiance.

Dervish riflemen appear in rocks .

The Egyptian 4th Infantry took the full force and held a first round of melee , but the Dervish Emir brought inn yet more forces wrapping around the square.

The 4th Egyptian were wiped out as the square face collapsed with Martins epic dice rolls .

The flank guard of the Egyptian camel corps formed its own square . It would later be annihilated by a Dervish ambush

The village remained in revolt  great fun game .

This will be the last run out of this collection as I have made decision to have a major thin out to enable me to progress onto new projects . Some parts will indeed be kept and redeployed to the Hindu Kush . The rest will be available via Colonel Bills in due course .

Building this collection has been a real joy over the last 11 years - and I must admit the building of these is the real joy for me . It has figures from every manufacturer who has done Sudan stuff. It has conversions and scratch built stuff too. I have played all the huge games it was designed for . It’s been to major shows , and in the magazines , as well as taken it to a major  film studios to use in a HBO documentary. It’s time to release it into the wild .
