Picking up those brushes again.

Hi and welcome to the occasional mutterings of Dave Doc, a military modeller and some time gamer. Gaming and model making has given me a real education, History & Geography(obvious really), Artistry, Politics, Economics, Logistics, Project Management -you try building miniature armies without the last 3.

I will use the blog to record my creations & the odd occasion I actually do some gaming.

I have always been inspired by the aesthetic side of gaming. Playing on well constructed terrain using excellently painted units is always a joy.

‘Nam - USMC top up

Another collection gets some love this winter is the ‘Nam. I have made a little hole in the lead pile by completing the outstanding fire support for the Marines . There isn’t that  much left in the lead pile box for this now - until Gringos tempts me with yet more stuff!

3 M60 teams , 3 81mm Mortars , a 50 cal , and a spare couple of guys I found already undercoated . All by Gringo40s as usual.

Sandbags for the 50 cal base are hand made from milliput.

So here is the completed fire support stuff for the collection

The box is now full - so for now I guess that will have to do !

7DTTR - The First Domino campaign

Catching up on a few posts now I have a little downtime. IanW and I have started playing the First Domino campaign for 7 Days . So far so good for my Soviets . Major victories in the first two games against BAOR .

ACW - Artillery top up.

As part of the loose winter paint plan I have a little bit of ACW to do. I only have a a small lead pile for this collection so decided to get the guns and limbers completed that were lain with it . As usual they are Pendraken, and finished with a satin varnish

Union limber and caisson teams

CSA limber

Rather than just expand the number of Union batteries I decided to take them to 3 gun model from the previous 3 gun .

A mix of Napoleons and Parrots added.

Union up to 10 full batteries , with the limbers done for the final 6 .

The CSA are up to 8 full batteries with another 4 to add .

Some heavy siege mortars for the Union .
Not sure when these will used but hey they look cool

Just leaves me the cavalry units left in the plan for this year .

Ardennes ‘44 - winter trees

I am moving on a bit with this project . I want to get a chunk of the terrain done so have made a start.

I have used conifers made by Busch in a range of sizes from 30mm to 150mm . These are fixed to various shaped bases bought from Warbases . The bases are drilled and the trees hot glued into place . Some larger bases only have trees around the edge to allow a smaller one inside to give denser forests or to give easy access to put troops in etc . The usual PVA and sand mix is added to base and it’s coloured a dark brown. Once all dried then add some layering spray thin PVA mix and shack over lots of Woodland Scenics snow.

A couple of my late war big cats added for effect - I need to do the proper winterising on the vehicles in due course - for now that was just a scatter of the snow powder .

Snow and glue- it’s a messy job!

Enough to cover a good third of my 8x4 table at decent density. Roads , hedges , fences to do next.
