Picking up those brushes again.

Hi and welcome to the occasional mutterings of Dave Doc, a military modeller and some time gamer. Gaming and model making has given me a real education, History & Geography(obvious really), Artistry, Politics, Economics, Logistics, Project Management -you try building miniature armies without the last 3.

I will use the blog to record my creations & the odd occasion I actually do some gaming.

I have always been inspired by the aesthetic side of gaming. Playing on well constructed terrain using excellently painted units is always a joy.

74th Line

I have been working on clearing off the prep desks ready for new stuff post hols. So I have completed some old school classic shiny Elite miniatures Napoleonic . The 74th line , a highland unit from the Peninsula without kilts.

Also completed another piece for the Old West Railroad as I finally laid my hands on a Denver & Rio Grande passenger car - now you never know who may turn up in town on the train. This just needed a decent bit of dutsy weathering.

Still a few things left to clear off - but getting there.

  1. Nice Dave, I am not an enormous fan of Elite, but my 43rd and 52nd Peninsular Light battalions are fro Elite and they do have charm. Yours looks great, I just completed the same unit with Front Rank.

  2. Great job. Nice to see the Highlanders without the kilts. The kilts do make them look good, but they're a pain to paint, especially since most of the time they didn't actually wear the kilt on the battlefield.

  4. Although 'old school', I've got to admit that there is a wonderful dynamic quality to those Elite miniatures. Very envious of the carriage too!

  10. I was enjoying your recent posts about Gunslingers and such.

But I really do like your units with more classic wargaming miniatures lots. Also - I think the trousers look great, what colors did you use to paint these please?

    1. Thanks Kawe - the base colour for the trousers is Vallejo Model Colour 867 Dark Blue Grey.

It is then highlighted with Pale Blue Grey #905. It
