Picking up those brushes again.

Hi and welcome to the occasional mutterings of Dave Doc, a military modeller and some time gamer. Gaming and model making has given me a real education, History & Geography(obvious really), Artistry, Politics, Economics, Logistics, Project Management -you try building miniature armies without the last 3.

I will use the blog to record my creations & the odd occasion I actually do some gaming.

I have always been inspired by the aesthetic side of gaming. Playing on well constructed terrain using excellently painted units is always a joy.

ACW - Battle rep

The man cave saw another game this weekend. James came over , we did some more planning on mynext new project (more soon) and we took the opprtunity for a game. As I now have a Confederate brigade I thought it might be good to get the their first game in.

The LED light sets help to add to the look!
I just set a simple scenario that used two Brigades of Confederates - one veteran and one green, against one Union Brigade - which for a change from out previous games was mostly veteran and crack.

Union deployed in the centre holding the hamlet and the hill

My new boys from Alabama - large untested "green" units
Confederate artillery gets to work

The Alabama boys advance!

The confederate second brigade arrives
The Union forces blast away one of the Alabama regiments , but the 37th carry on with a rebel yell
Union artillery in a daring move advance in the centre down the road

The Alabama boys try to stave of a Union counterattack..
the veteran brigade struggle under fire crossing the creek ..game over boys...
Another good game was had. It really made clear that the quality of your troops makes the difference. The new green Confederates all ran in the end .. the Union veteran and crack troops made it look easy.

A good game. I will continue to add to this collection over the year. it does look very good I think on the table , and with a relatively small outlay overall is worth keeping on with.

  1. very cool, be nice to get a game in. Nice t give the Prussians a go, got enough for a fairly small battle - about 60 bases inf plus cav and art

  2. Thanks for the game Dave, it might have been the first time I have ever fought at the Union side! As it's not my period of choice I seem to be always relegated to playing the 'baddies'! I did only have one crack unit though ;)
