Picking up those brushes again.

Hi and welcome to the occasional mutterings of Dave Doc, a military modeller and some time gamer. Gaming and model making has given me a real education, History & Geography(obvious really), Artistry, Politics, Economics, Logistics, Project Management -you try building miniature armies without the last 3.

I will use the blog to record my creations & the odd occasion I actually do some gaming.

I have always been inspired by the aesthetic side of gaming. Playing on well constructed terrain using excellently painted units is always a joy.

"The pay is $20"...Its Chris Adams

I finally managed some brush time over the weekend, and finished off the latest 54mm cowboy figure. Chris Adams from the Magnificent 7. A fairly simple paint job as it was kept in a black outfit. Once more another finely detailed figure , even has a cast eyeball!  There guesses what Western I shall be watching shortly.

More progress made on the rest of the stuff on the table, The 18mm French Cuirassier have been finished ready for basing by Steve who's present they are. - I will post up when he has them done.

Also on with with final preparation for the Blog Con meet up next weekend. I will be doing an update post tomorrow

Paint table Saturday

It's around again!

It's been a quiet week on the painting front, just a few base colours added to the cavalry units on the go at the moment. However it did see the arrival from Historex of the next 54mm Cowboy. This is the Yul Brynner figure, usable for either The Magnificent 7 or Westworld. Either way I have decided to go for black clothing for him, meaning it's a rare (for me) use of black as an undercoat. The challenge will be in keeping the highlight work subtle and not letting get to light. Looking forward to doing this one.

Base yellow ochre for the yellow uniforms of the Spanish Dragoons. checking resources I have 3 possible uniforms for the trumpeters! Decisions, decisions.

About half way there on the troopers for the Cuirassiers.

Billy The Kid

In between doing some work on the cavalry I have been tickling the brushes over the Andrea Miniatures "Billy the Kid". I am beginning to sound like a broken record when i say these figures are superb, but I just can't help it - they are!

I really enjoyed painting this one. I also used the new Scale 75 paints for the flesh. I must say I am very impressed with the quality. They also dry very matt. So I think i need to try some of the colour packs .

Not bad comparison , although perhaps should have had darker trousers,

Painting what appears to be a ribbed / corduroy jacket was "fun"

And here is a group shot of all the Andrea figures together.

So  I need your help on which figure from the range to choose next to order up from Historex, just leave a reply , the one with most votes will be the next 54mm project.

Wild Bill Hickock

High Noon - Gary Cooper

Pale Rider

Magnificent 7 - Yul Brinner

Winchester 73 - James Stewart

Just a quick WIP update. Getting myself back doing unit painting. So starting with some cavalry which I always enjoy. So here we have some Elite Spanish Dragoons, horses now completed, and an 18mm AB figure French Cuirassier . More progress on the 54mm Billy the Kid. A very pleasant afternoon just flitting between projects

A spring Blog -Con

Just an update on planning for our second "official" Blog-Con meet up. I have a dedicated room reserved for a meet up on Saturday the 3rd of May ((10.30 - 16.30) at the Yorkshire Air Museum. This is located just outside the historic city of York at an old air base.

As a number of us all took part in Curt's Analogue Hobbies paint challenge , and the top 3 point scorers all hail from Yorkshire - well by abode if nothing else (Loki is a cockerney. - jellied eels, pearly kings and that.....) - It only seemed the right thing to do. So if you are interested in coming along - I have limited "official" entry tickets for the museum ,please register an interest on the Blog Con site, or contact me direct.  Nothing of course stopping you popping in and saying hi anyway.

I know a number of you will be meeting up at Salute again this year,- I can't make it this time (but will be watching the t'interweb for your updates!) so it will be great to meet up just a few weeks later if you can join. I am also looking at Autumn event at the Foundry venue - but I am considering Crisis in Antwerp for a social!

Of course we will also have the opportunity to meet up with Curt who is over on his R&R recovering from his winter exertions. I will be bringing the town of "Serenity Flatts" along for a little entertainment between all the jaw-jaw.

I have been working on a few new additions for the game, and when I knew Curt was coming over I could not pass up the opportunity to add a Mountie to the collection. The cards have arrived from Artscow who have had an excellent 20% off and free worldwide shipping offer recently.

Now what is the yellow chicken all about? ..Where is "Budgie Ray??".
