Picking up those brushes again.

Hi and welcome to the occasional mutterings of Dave Doc, a military modeller and some time gamer. Gaming and model making has given me a real education, History & Geography(obvious really), Artistry, Politics, Economics, Logistics, Project Management -you try building miniature armies without the last 3.

I will use the blog to record my creations & the odd occasion I actually do some gaming.

I have always been inspired by the aesthetic side of gaming. Playing on well constructed terrain using excellently painted units is always a joy.

Gaming - Napoleonics in the Grand Manner

I have had another visit to see the Vienna Wargamers and participate in another of the large game offerings .

This time we were doing the Northern side of Leipzig around Mockern and then the French being pushed back even further by the combined might of the various allied armies . After the first two days the table was re-set to move the battlefield closer to Leipzig .

A great few days gaming was had - great company.

The first allied assault heads towards Mockern - it heavily outnumbered the Polish defenders - who would repulse the first go,at it .
Other than that I have mislaid my notes since getting home!

And it wouldn’t be a trip to Vienna without Coffee and cake

Normandy ‘44 . More new buildings.

Having done a lot of green related Nam stuff I felt the need to do something different. Last year I had picked up some more 3D printed items to add to the collection - mostly from Highland 3D . The water tower is an unusual piece adding some extra height to the table. The railway station is a most definite French design along with the garage building . The others are mostly variations on town buildings.

First up though James had found a 15mm French infantryman that I was able to repurpose into a classic war memorial that you see in every small town.

The town set up is now covering around 4x4 . The next stage is to base up the buildings into sets with back yards ‘ gardens etc to bring it life some more .

I don’t think I have posted the Carantan arches set before which was completed in the autumn so here they are too. The set was by Patrick in Germany .They match in nicely with the resin Tiger Terrain pieces .

In addition I knocked out a few 10mm ACW buildings while doing these .

Overall a productive week, so time for something new I think

Nam - M42 Duster

I have now cleared out the stash of vehicles for the Nam. This one is a M42 Duster with twin 40mm Bofors l it’s a Full Metal Miniatures kit that went together well .

Next up I need to clear out the 15mm and 10mm  building stash I think.

‘Nam - PBR and VC on the trail.

I have completed some more stuff this week that’s been in the “to do” pile for a while . I am trying to get everything non infantry or aircraft cleared off .

First up the PBR kit and the Apocalypse Now crew from Empress. A very nice item it is too . It was cleanly cast and went together well .

I did the waves and wake with a combination of hot glue and adhesive applied with a cartridge gun then teasing it with a bit of wire . There area at the rear had some bent white pipe I had in the bits box added which then had the hot glue and adhesive applied over it to give an impression of speed. I had made a wedge shim out of XPS to go under the front half of the boat to lift it up as well.

I had made the canopy removable and magnetised it . Then you can also see the chief driving the boat .

The figures are a great rendition of the film characters.

The surf board is a good addition with the kit

Next up is a set of cyclists from Full Metal Miniatures .

I added a couple of RPG’s being carried as well - again these were from FMM

I have one more item of Nm stuff to finish coming up then I will move into something else for a bit.

‘Nam - M274 mule and recoiless rifle

Well that is the festive period out of the way. I have had to replace my paint desk due to the old one finally falling apart -it never did like being moved the last time and the drawers finally fell out and the top was loose . I took advantage of the sales to get a new one . The winter painting stash is now all sorted and ready for production again .

I am clearing up the Nam (yes more !) vehicle stuff at the moment . This next one is the Mule and recoiless rifle set from Gringo40s.

Some VC vehicle related stuff next before going back to some 10mm stuff .
