Picking up those brushes again.

Hi and welcome to the occasional mutterings of Dave Doc, a military modeller and some time gamer. Gaming and model making has given me a real education, History & Geography(obvious really), Artistry, Politics, Economics, Logistics, Project Management -you try building miniature armies without the last 3.

I will use the blog to record my creations & the odd occasion I actually do some gaming.

I have always been inspired by the aesthetic side of gaming. Playing on well constructed terrain using excellently painted units is always a joy.

Gaming - Paper Soldiers and a bit of painting .

Things finally aligned this weekend to meet up with the guys from the local gaming group . We are putting on a demo game at Battleground at the end of November and John wanted a target to get his WSS paper soldiers collection completed and out on the table .

We set up the main 12x6 with some simple terrain so we could work through the rules on a page stuff that he’d created too .

The French and allies , against the Brits and Allies .

Pretty sure John has ruined a few pairs of scissors doing the cast of 1000’s . They are all based on MDF based to give a little heft .

The French carried the day - with some seriously good dice rolling - much to the British commander -John - chagrin.

The French are putting the Brits under real pressure by the end if the game

A good play test was had - a few simple tweaks to make and some more paper buildings to add to finish off .

Bren also had his St Nazaire set up out - as it’s getting nearer completion .again this was to do some play testing for a future multiplayer game for us .

I have completed some paint table lurkers to get the brushes moving again - and it’s now all clear ready for a load of 10mm Naps for Gerry and to crack on with my other winter projects .

New Project time - Ardennes 44 .

Having scratched the big Nam itch it’s time for a new project . It’s time to leave the steamy jungles of SE Asia and I have been thinking about a winter table for a while , so doing a 15mm Ardennes set up for WW2 will fit the bill . I have a bit of an excess of completed summer  stuff already that with a little tweak will be used here, along with some already completed late war bits , that will need some winterising In addition I have been picking up some winter troop options on and off as I have found them on various forum pages and e bay .

So here is the start . A nice 8x4 mat from Deepcut , - I also have a 12x6 for inevitable expansion . I have made a start of some trees for now while I plan up the initial table l am not intending this one to go too off piste , just enough for a decent game .

The trees are by Busch . I have a few more packs to work my way through , and winterise!

I have plenty of bits to do on the various collections over the coming painting season too .so here are a few things coming up :-

28mm Vietnam - Aircraft & Urban buildings ,

15mm Normandy 44 - Carentan table to finish off - mainly the canal area  , and gardens for the buildings

15mm WW3 Soviets for 7 Days to the Rhine .

28mm Sudan - A bit of  “What if” - I have a Ghurka battalion to add , and some Egyptian limbers

28mm WW2 Some SAS Rogue hero bits for WW2 in 28mm

28mm Necromunda - Ridge Walker vehicle and some terrain bits to add

10mm ACW - I need to top up the artillery on both sides , and add some dismounted cavalry

In addition have a bunch of 10mm Naps to do for Gerry - as he needs yet more !

Plenty to keep me busy
