Picking up those brushes again.

Hi and welcome to the occasional mutterings of Dave Doc, a military modeller and some time gamer. Gaming and model making has given me a real education, History & Geography(obvious really), Artistry, Politics, Economics, Logistics, Project Management -you try building miniature armies without the last 3.

I will use the blog to record my creations & the odd occasion I actually do some gaming.

I have always been inspired by the aesthetic side of gaming. Playing on well constructed terrain using excellently painted units is always a joy.

"Fill your hands Mister"

There must be any number of Old West cliche's to be used here. Anyway I finished up the first lot of the "Old West" purchases from Salute. Enough to get a game in I reckon. Here we have Ginger Lily and her gang. These are all Black Scorpion miniatures

Also that perennial Old West favourite - "Doc Holliday" , by Artizan Designs

I did these to a basic game standard - simple blocking work , washes then a drybrush. It gave a pleasant dusty look to the end result. I see some fantastic painted Old West stuff , but some of it is just too clean looking to my eye - i magine the old west as being dirty & muddy or dusty!. I have another 30 or so figures a mix of townsfolk, gunslingers ,lawmen etc to do and I will do them all similarly. Once done i will revisit to improve the overall look if need be. Looking forward to the first game against Scott's Marauders!

  1. They have turned out really well; the dry brushing on the denim is particularly effective. Top work Sir!

  4. You're doing a great job of getting onto painting the haul you brought back from salute. These figures have plenty of attitude and you've done a great job of painting them.

    1. Thanks Anne , they are nice to paint - an it is doing something less regimented as well - gives a littel more reign to creativity

  5. I agree about the look of western figures, far too often they don't seem to look right. Yours look great though, just how I would want to do them. Image stored away fr inspiration if needed in the future
