Picking up those brushes again.

Hi and welcome to the occasional mutterings of Dave Doc, a military modeller and some time gamer. Gaming and model making has given me a real education, History & Geography(obvious really), Artistry, Politics, Economics, Logistics, Project Management -you try building miniature armies without the last 3.

I will use the blog to record my creations & the odd occasion I actually do some gaming.

I have always been inspired by the aesthetic side of gaming. Playing on well constructed terrain using excellently painted units is always a joy.

‘Nam 68 - First of the choppers

I guess like a lot of people when I think of the Vietnam war I think of pictures and movies with helicopters. I have a accumulated a number of helicopter and aircraft kits and the focus is on getting these completed over the next couple of months. I have gone for 1/48th scale - so they will  look the part alright

The work horse of course was Bell Helicopters Iroquois. Better known as the Huey.

This is the basic Hobbyboss kit which is reasonably simple built. Usefully the rotors can just be dropped in to place which will aid with storage. I would like to get some proper discs in due due course.

I have made up 6 flight stands using telescopic back scratchers I found on Amazon. They are attached to 90mm round MDF bases using milliput and have around 200g of lead weights added to give them some decent heft. I have used a mechanical nut and bolt fixing for the top to make sure they are really secure.

It’s the first aircraft kit I have done for many years . I have a issue with some of the transparency pieces frosting slightly which I will sort on the next one with a different glue . Really enjoyed the build .

  2. Looks great stalking across the lawn Dave. I assume the Ride of the Valkyries was hummed or sung.

  4. This entire project has been a real eye opener Dave. I'm sorry I haven't been able to comment regularly as Blogger for some reason has been as temperamental as a hormonal teenager lately. Looking forward to seeing your games in detail soon.

  5. Fabulous work Dave! I love the flight stands as well. For your future canopies, try out this from Greenstuff World (I love the stuff for my acrylic bases):

  6. Hi Dave, Probably wrong place to ask, but some advice would be good.
10mm Napoleonic Limbers with horse teams. I'm mad and want to do the full limbers with harnesses for the horses. Would you use fuse wire and solder it, or maybe thin piano wire which would be rigid and maybe superglued? What's your opinion?

    1. I already know you are mad… 😂😂. If you are doing this before it’s all painted I think I would us stripped garden twisty wire .. it’s fairly rigid , bit also pretty thin. If it’s all bare metal then small soldering job I would say fir both sides of the traces. . I am a man of leisure from the end of July . So happy to help out - just mail me
