Picking up those brushes again.

Hi and welcome to the occasional mutterings of Dave Doc, a military modeller and some time gamer. Gaming and model making has given me a real education, History & Geography(obvious really), Artistry, Politics, Economics, Logistics, Project Management -you try building miniature armies without the last 3.

I will use the blog to record my creations & the odd occasion I actually do some gaming.

I have always been inspired by the aesthetic side of gaming. Playing on well constructed terrain using excellently painted units is always a joy.

Nam - M88 ARV and M50 Ontos

I have picked up a few more vehicles to add from Full Metal Miniatures .

First up an M88 armoured recovery vehicle . I modelled it so the A frame jib could be deployed or down for moving . I used a Gringos figure wearing a baseball type cap for the commander . It’s carrying a large big box of local “33” beer on the back . I always like have engineering vehicles in the collection ss they are great for creating scenarios .

Next is an M50 Ontos. Aka “the Thing!
It’s a hell of a lot of firepower in a small package. Light enough to cross small bridges or be lifted under helicopter.

The BIG Vietnam game is now booked for 3 days in August - it will be epic .

  1. Is the M50 a real thing it looks like it would blow itself apart …crazy, you should have given the commander a side arm as an extra weapon !

    1. Yep it real. They built 297 of em . They were popular with the Marines. Light enough to cross bridges , be picked with helicopters. Only carried 18 rounds though , and had to reloaded from outside , armour only good against small arms . Great against buildings
