Picking up those brushes again.

Hi and welcome to the occasional mutterings of Dave Doc, a military modeller and some time gamer. Gaming and model making has given me a real education, History & Geography(obvious really), Artistry, Politics, Economics, Logistics, Project Management -you try building miniature armies without the last 3.

I will use the blog to record my creations & the odd occasion I actually do some gaming.

I have always been inspired by the aesthetic side of gaming. Playing on well constructed terrain using excellently painted units is always a joy.

Back of Beyond . Bolsheviks - Boat

This weeks jobs have been finishing of some more items for the Bolsheviks in the form of the navy .

This one is 400mm long and 95 at its widest point

The flags can of course be swapped out to use for other forces if need be . Weapons are a mix of 3d printed from Actual Size , HLBS and Pulp miniatures.

It was scratchbuilt after passing a design over to laser guys at Pendraken . The hull is made of layers of 2mm MDF cut to shape , with a 1/2mm reduction per layer as it goes down to give it some shape . The weapon areas are magnetised so I can swap out the weapon type .

 (

This gives me the torpedo  boat and the larger boat .

The next job for this project is the armoured train. The grandsons unplayed with Lego bits have been liberated to make a start on this .

  1. Great stuff again Dave - the Red Navy looks impressive - and I can't wait to see what you come up with in terms of an armoured train!

  3. Amazing! I love the idea that you designed these and then had them cut. Will your design now be available as an option to buy in their store?

    1. Cheers . Hadn’t thought of that . But sure an email direct to Leon@pendraken.co.uk would sort something out . The laser guys have the base plan

I need a couple to battle on my Martian canals, so I'd also love Pendraken to have these available for order
