Picking up those brushes again.

Hi and welcome to the occasional mutterings of Dave Doc, a military modeller and some time gamer. Gaming and model making has given me a real education, History & Geography(obvious really), Artistry, Politics, Economics, Logistics, Project Management -you try building miniature armies without the last 3.

I will use the blog to record my creations & the odd occasion I actually do some gaming.

I have always been inspired by the aesthetic side of gaming. Playing on well constructed terrain using excellently painted units is always a joy.

Gaming - Ardennes game 2

A second run for  the Ardennes set up . Since last month I have added extra German anrmour - Stugs , Pumas , Ostwind  and Pioneer platoon with 3 Hanomags  and bridging options . I have also completed the blown bridge version of the existing one . I picked up a 3x3 winter town mat from Deepcut to help create a larger town look .

The basic scenario was the same , I just keep adding stuff to it to see how far I can take this . James had the US forces which is a platoon of US infantry and combat engineers with some 57mm ATGs and off table 105mm battery Reinforcemts would be tank and Tank Destroyers .

We had the mist across the table . The mechanism for lifting is each player turn they roll a D20 , odd below 15 the Germans remove an area, evens below 15 the US do . Above 15 odds is German artillery available, evens &s reinforcements. This produced various bits of sneakiness and amusements .

The lead German elements git across the bridge after clearing minefields on the way to bridge
The US engineeers managed to blow the bridge after redoing the wire behind leading elements - boom !

There was definite Tiger scare in the town .. as it prowled around .

This game was a German minor victory , as the captured the town , with plenty of resources left , they had inflicted lots of casualties on the US , but it had taken too long .. and the dump behind the town had been blown up .

More next time
